We encountered Jpod this afternoon just north of False Bay moving in various directions as they hunted for salmon.
When we first arrived we soon spotted J1 "Ruffles" foraging on his own a little north of the rest of Jpod. We then headed south to False Bay where more members of Jpod were actively fishing.
J28 "Polaris" could be seen with an unidentified calf (identified as J38 "Cookie" by Ron Bates, Marine Mammal Researcher) that she was probably baby sitting. We also saw Polaris kelping near the shoreline.
On our way back to our dock we had our first sightings of the year of a Western Grebe and actually saw 3 birds in total. This was further proof of the diversity and rich abundance of marine wildlife found in and around Victoria.
